Title: Development Director
Reports to: Executive Director, Tanya Wallace Gobern
Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 (Based on experience)
Work Schedule: Full Time, Exempt
Location: US Remote
ABOUT NATIONAL BLACK WORKER CENTER:
In response to disproportionately high levels of unemployment and low wage work in Black communities, the National Black Worker Center Project (NBWC) – a national network of Black worker centers – launched in 2011. We support and incubate worker centers who empower Black workers to advance their rights and improve the quality of jobs in key employment sectors. We provide education about the impacts of low-wage work and unemployment on Black communities and work to prevent racial discrimination in hiring and other employment practices and policies. Through our network we intervene in the labor market to improve racial and economic employment conditions. Partnering regional Black worker centers are in Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, Il; New Orleans, LA; Baltimore, MD; Raleigh-Rocky Mount, NC; Washington, DC; Pittsburgh, PA; Philadelphia, PA; and Oakland, CA. Our network consists of membership-based and member-driven organizations that utilize a combination of leadership development, organizing, policy advocacy, and strategic communications to build power to address the Black job crisis.
At a time of substantial organizational growth, NBWC is seeking an energetic and versatile fundraising professional to serve on the organization’s leadership team. The Development Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic plan to raise approximately $5-6 million annually for the organization..
- Develop and manage a national fundraising strategy that includes membership engagement, donor development, grant writing, and diversifying revenue streams to raise approximately $5-6 million annually
- Manage existing donor relationships – individual, foundation, and corporate – and implement new strategies to upgrade donor levels and diversify revenue streams to ensure organizational sustainability
- Personally build, qualify, and pursue a pipeline of donors – individual, foundation, and corporate– while leveraging organizational relationships (e.g., leadership teams, board members) with the capacity to give five and six figure annual and/or multi-year gifts
- Create and manage a budget for fundraising programs and major events
- Collaborate with leadership team to establish and execute long and short-term development goals aimed at increasing donor support from individuals, foundations, and corporate sector
- Manage the execution of grant and sponsorship agreements ensuring that the NBWC meets all documented deliverables. This to include timely and accurate report deliveries to funders
- Lead grant management practices and strategies – working closely with ED, staff, and contractors to renew, upgrade, and or secure new grant revenue
- Provide regular reports documenting progress to goal, health of pipeline, donor retention rates, donor trends, etc.
- Participate in major donor solicitations in partnership with executive director and board members
- Work with the Communication team to develop effective communication for fundraising efforts both digitally and in print
- Participate in creating a collaborative team culture across the entire organization, empower each team member to play a role in achieving established fundraising goals
- Develop and manage a recognition program to acknowledge donors and sponsors
- Other related responsibilities, as assigned by the Executive Director.
The Development Director will be passionate about creating innovative fundraising solutions to support the empowerment Black workers. The DD will be comfortable with meeting aggressive fundraising goals; proactive regarding the improvement of fundraising strategies and best practices; exhibit an authentic personality that translates into building long standing relationships; and not afraid to hear no. They will possess a keen ability to sell ideas and close deals.
- Experience establishing and achieving ambitious fundraising goals through a variety of fundraising streams including 6 figure gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, and individual giving campaigns
- 6+ years fundraising experience with demonstrated ability to meet and exceed documented fundraising goals of $3M+ per year
- Demonstrated experience in securing multi-million-dollar gifts
- Demonstrated experience in playing a leadership role in identifying, soliciting, and securing corporate donors
- Demonstrated experience in playing a leadership role in developing and implementing successful individual donor campaigns
- Demonstrated grant writing experience. Foundation relationships a plus.
- Demonstrated commitment to Black workers, workers’ rights, and social justice and racial justice values
- Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to relate, establish, and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to simultaneously manage and effectively prioritize many fundraising activities and meet varying deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and judgment skills – demonstrated by the ability to assess information and act strategically
- Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills showing flexibility as needed; adept at dealing with conflicting/changing priorities
- Proficient in MS Office Suite – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
- Ability to travel in and out of state with overnights as needed

SALARY & BENEFITS:
Salary range is $70,000 – $90,000 depending on experience.
