At NBWC, we empower Black workers with the knowledge and resources they need to become strong advocates and leaders in their workplaces and communities. Our trainings are designed to help Black workers continue pushing for their rights and the rights of all Black workers. Explore the training programs we offer below.

OUR TRAININGS

“Those who tell the stories rule society.” Plato
In a world where Black voices have historically been excluded from mainstream books and media, the Working While Black-Tell Your Story training connects the voices and stories of those who have been marginalized to shape the narrative of their own experience. Participants will learn how to use storytelling to educate, inspire and motivate others to join movements for change. At the completion of the training, participants will have completed an article, blog series, or op ed draft.

Clap Back: to respond quickly and sharply to critical remarks or unfair treatment
Frequently when someone says something nasty to you at work, your gut reaction is to channel your inner Cardi B and clap back right away. However, doing so can quickly land you in the unemployment line. The How to Clap Back and Not Lose Your Job training equips workers with the language needed to maintain their dignity, command respect and respond to workplace microaggressions, and other heated moments of anger or hurt without putting their job in jeopardy.

Don’t let the unique challenges and systemic barriers faced by Black workers in the workplace keep you from getting your coins. Learn the key elements of negotiating your salary and get the skills, strategies, and confidence needed to successfully negotiate your salary at work.

Designed to equip Black workers with the tools and strategies to organize their workplaces. Workers will learn how to organize conversations with their co-workers and build collective power. They will learn how to address workplace injustices, and advocate for their rights and safety. They will be more knowledgeable about how to identify power structures within the workplace; and shift power into the hands of the workers.

Dive deeper into the practical strategies and tactics essential for effective The training It focuses on equipping Black workers with the skills needed to navigate complex power dynamics, overcome resistance, and mobilize their coworkers toward collective action. Workers will learn how to form an organizing group and Black Worker Circle, plan and execute impactful campaigns, and utilize strategic tools to push for the changes they want at work. The training also addresses common challenges Black workers face in organizing, to prepare them for push back and adversity. This training will provide workers with a clear, actionable plan that will have them ready to take the next steps in building worker power.

Explore the implications of negative biases in artificial intelligence (AI) systems for Black workers.

As AI increasingly influences various aspects of our lives, from employment opportunities to the criminal justice systems, it’s imperative to confront and address the biases that perpetuate inequality and discrimination.

Through interactive discussions, case studies, and expert insights, participants will gain a deeper understanding of:

  • The concept of bias in AI and its manifestations in different contexts.
  • Specific instances of bias in AI algorithms that disproportionately affect Black workers.
  • The socio-economic implications of biased AI on employment, career advancement, and economic empowerment within the Black community.
