Working While Black Hotline

When you need more immediate support, our texting hotline is here to help. The Working While Black (WWB) hotline allows workers to report injustices and get the resources needed to educate and train themselves as they stand up for justice in their workplace. The hotline allows NBWC to identify the most pressing issues workers face, so we can target the most needed types of training and resources for Black workers to advocate for themselves.

Establishing a discrimination hotline serves several important purposes:

    • Providing Support: A hotline provides a confidential and supportive environment for individuals to discuss their experiences, seek guidance, and receive support.
    • Reporting Mechanism: A hotline serves as a direct channel for individuals to report instances of discrimination they have experienced or witnessed. This allows for NBWC to escalate violations of worker rights through our program Black Legal Action & Community Knowledge (B.L.A.C.K.). Through this program, our staff and legal partners will evaluate surveys and intake forms to further clarify the issue and the appropriate forms of actions necessary to address the discrimination and ensure accountability.
    • Documentation and Data Collection: Our WWB Hotline will help collect data on the prevalence and types of discrimination occurring within a particular community, employer, or work sector. This data will be used to identify trends, patterns, and areas where interventions and/or deeper organizing approaches are needed.
    • Education and Awareness: We will offer information and resources to educate Black Workers about their rights, relevant laws and policies, and available support services. This helps empower individuals who use the hotline to assert their rights and take appropriate action in response to discrimination.
    • Prevention and Intervention: By providing a platform for reporting and addressing discrimination, the WWB hotline will help prevent future incidents and intervene in ongoing situations to mitigate harm and promote equitable treatment at work.

Overall, our goal is for the hotline to play a crucial role in combating and ending discrimination, supporting those affected by it, and fostering a more inclusive and equitable workplace for Black working people.
