REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFPS) FOR FINANCE CONSULTANT

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The National Black Worker Center (NBWC) is a national network of Black worker centers that work to end anti-Black worker racism and discrimination in the workplace. Our mission is to organize Black workers to build the power to achieve liberation by dismantling systemic racism and economic exploitation. Our vision is of a world where Black workers proudly live free, controlling the full value of our labor and the full expression of our culture.

WHERE WE ARE:

  1. NBWC is transitioning from a fiscally sponsored entity to an independent 501(c)3 in early 2024.
  2. NBWC has approximately thirteen (13) Full Time Staff members.
  3. NBWC’s approximate Annual Operating Budget is $2,400,000.
  4. NBWC plans to grow into a $7,000,000 Annual Operating Budget in five (5) years.

  2. NBWC is the go-to organization for all things regarding Black workers.
  3. NBWC mobilizes Black workers, and Black worker-focused organizations to build power for Black

  4. NBWC builds a cadre of Black worker centers that work to end anti-black worker racism and
    discrimination.
  5. NBWC empowers Black workers to fight back and win.

WHAT WE DO:

  1. Educate and train the Black worker community about Black worker issues.
  2. Lead national campaigns to end anti-Black worker racism & discrimination.
  3. Build alliances with Black leaders, organizations, and supporters of ending anti-Black worker
    racism and discrimination.
  4. Incubate and support Black worker centers

SCOPE OF WORK

As NBWC prepares to spin off from its fiscal sponsor, NEO Philanthropy, we are seeking the services of a financial consultant to:
Undertake foundational work – analyses and professional recommendations.
  • Analyze NBWC’s business and financial processes. Identify gaps in internal accounting controls. Using the findings of this assessment, make recommendations to leadership that mitigate the risk of fraud, increase transparency, enhance financial performance, comply with donor regulations, accomplish strategic objectives, and safeguard the organization’s assets.
  • Manage the development of financial management policies and procedures related to financial management, investment management, debt management, reserves, risk management, financial systems management, and business planning.
  • Identify and onboard financial software to support the organization’s identified financial needs.
  • Collaborate with leadership to determine the structure of NBWC’s finance department – providing recommendations for full-time, part-time, and or contractor roles to implement accounting policies and procedures.
Finance Services
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to manage the annual budget process, ensuring team input and board approval.
  • Maintain and strengthen financial accounting systems and tools.
  • Develop monthly rolling and long-range financial forecasts.
  • Timely monthly financial reports and monthly rolling forecasting
  • Analyze and inform the executive leadership team and Board of Directors of the organization’s financial health.
  • Oversee annual accounting processes, actively supporting auditors in conducting the annual audit and filing annual tax forms.
  • Timely and accurate review and processing of expenditure reports and bank account reconciliations
  • Timely and accurate tracking of expenditures against budgets and pipeline projections – determining if costs are allowable, allocable, and reasonable per grants. Identify and address any potential under or overspending.

  • The First Round of Screening Interviews will be conducted by Thursday, March 7th, 2024.
  • The Final Round of Screening Interviews will be conducted by Thursday, March 14th, 2024.
  • The winning RFP will be selected by Friday, March 15th, 2024.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR PROPOSAL

Basic Information:

  • Legal name, registered address, and “Remit to” mailing address, if different from registered Address.
  • Name of authorized representative for this RFP, with telephone number(s), and email address.
  • General information about your organization and the services it offers.

 

Qualifications and Capabilities:

  • Brief description of the organization/entity and experience that illustrates overall services and capabilities to meet the terms of the RFP.
  • Years of relevant experience.
  • Data protection policies (personal identifying information, etc.)

 

  • Past Performance and Experience Document and summarize your proven track record of successfully providing services.
  • Please list three relevant ventures you implemented within the past 3 years, a brief description of how each is relevant to the scope of the RFP, and the contact details for each previous client. You may also include recommendation/appreciation letters and certificates.
    • (a) Name of Organization
    • (b) Synopsis of the consulting services and relevance to this RFP
    • (c) Performance period (date and duration)

  • Experience and Capacity: Describe background and experience demonstrating the ability to provide required services. A general overview of the consultant’s or firm’s history and background (i.e., when established, general partners, main location, principal to be assigned, support staff, branch offices, etc.). Indicate if firm or capacity expansion is required to provide service and your experience working with a similarly sized organization. Include a statement indicating the ability to respond on short notice and within tight timelines to assignments.
  • Commitment to Inclusion: Include a commitment to inclusion statement wherein you identify how your team or firm approaches internal and external diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Consulting Team: Identify the primary contact person and the specific team members who will serve on and be assigned to serve on the consultant team for the various categories identified above. Include resumes of the person(s) directly responsible for providing the consulting
    services, along with specific applicable experience and resumes for supporting individuals who will be working with that individual on the project and what their responsibilities will be, as well as specific applicable experience. Also, identify any subcontractors that may be used to provide services for each category identified above, and note whether any such subcontractors are “certified” or “not certified” as Minority/Women/Disadvantaged Business Enterprises.
  • References: List three (3) references from contracts similar in size and scope. Provide specific examples of other non-profit experience and references (firm or agency name, contact person, phone number) that we may contact regarding such representation.
  • Costs: Outline the billing structure by professional and propose hourly rates. Please indicate the willingness/unwillingness to negotiate a final fee schedule (hourly rate), fixed fee, or fee cap for each assignment. Please provide, if possible, estimates of costs for individual assignments.

NBWC will not respond to questions received other than the specified email address. No oral answers will be provided. Instead, all answers to questions relevant to this RFP will be shared via email no later than 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, Friday, March 1st, 2024, for all offerors to see.
